Not All Is Lost - Prompt 22

With a groan, the weary adventurer sat, pressing his back against a cold rock. He had climbed during the night to gain an advantage against those who pursue him. He thought about his home, his life, and his Love. He thought about all he had lost in the name in what he had believed in, what he knew to be true. It angered him greatly to see all those who had fallen into darkness, who now threatened his very life.


"Not all is lost..." his Love told him before she slipped into the eternal darkness. He wanted to yell at her, to scream that she was his All, what they had built together was everything to him. Instead he could only run, as the chase had already begun. His moments of grief were not long enough to satisfy the ever-growing emptiness in his soul.


He could hear the voices and the twigs snapping behind him. He stood, ready to move again; to find what he hadn't yet lost.
